  • I am not a parishioner at St Jude, nor have I met Fr Couto. I can't believe two things, however: that the dollar value of cash donations to the Parish would affect his decision to endorse or participate in a Catholic event, and secondly, that as unlikely as it is that he would behave this way, that he would ever let it be know that he felt/acted this way. I suspect that like many parish priests, that Fr Couto does not want his Parish to be used for a special sacrament by those who are not participating Catholics. I would feel the same way. Go to a Justice of the Peace for the Kodak moment, do not use a Catholic (or any other denomination, for that matter) church for this event.

  • I too had an issue with Father Couto about not having enough envelopes when it came time for me to need his signature. It's nice, but sad to know I'm not the only one. I thought the catholic church was suppose to be forgiving, accepting, and gracious to all. It seems like money is more of an issue than the act of having faith in god and going to church. I think this is dispicable behavior! It's actions like this that cause people to lose faith in the catholic church! I too would look into joining another parish where money isn't the end all be all. I will teach my children to be kind to all regardless of the amount of money they have or are able to donate.

If you are a member of St. Jude's Parish in Londonderry NH, make sure that you put your donation envelopes in every week. Father Couto keeps tally on who gives what. Cash is not proof that you donated. I attend weekly Mass but put cash in rather than the envelope. I think that is a privacy issue. If you ever need anything at the church, Father Couto checks on your donation envelopes to see what you have donated. That is how he judges how good of a catholic you are. If he doesn't have you on his envelope donation list, don't ever attempt to have a marriage, baptism or become a God parent at St Jude's. Fortunately, there are many other catholic churches that will accept you with open arms regardless of what you give them for a donation. Try St Marks if you live in Londonderry, NH.
